You Won’t Believe What Made This 78 Year Old Man So Strong

When most people think vegan diet, they think weakness. With no meat or dairy, it is commonly assumed that vegans have no way of getting the protein their body needs to stay strong.

Vegans, on the other hand, contend that there are a variety of plant-based alternatives. Yet, picturing them snacking on seeds and nuts, some of us just don’t buy it.

Wait until you meet Jim Morris.

The Toughest Vegan You’ll Ever Meet

Jim is the strongest looking 78-year-old man I’ve ever seen. In pictures and videos, he appears to be in remarkably good shape. Far better than a lot of meat-eaters I know.

For most of his life he was a professional bodybuilder and has only become a vegan in the last twelve years or so, after retiring. But it’s clear that he hasn’t lost his conditioning and has a number of good reasons for why he decided to move to a vegan diet.

For one thing, he feels better physically. He no longer experiences the digestive issues, like constipation and bloating, that he had when he was consuming large quantities of meat. These days he isn’t even concerned with protein because he knows there is enough in the foods he eats. Fruit, grains, and beans all have protein.

For another, he feels better spiritually. He can better relate to the world and is more comfortable knowing that he is no longer participating in the killing of intelligent and emotional beings. It’s nice to know that he isn’t a part of hurting animals on a daily basis.

But the reason that makes the most to me is this: “We can survive on a lot of things, but just because we can, doesn’t mean that it’s good for us.” He contends that his vegan diet is the reason he looks and feels so good, and there’s some science to back him up.

Why You Should Listen

Some studies have indicated that vegans, on average, live 6 to 10 years longer than those who eat meat. When Jim says, “I would not be here if I had continued eating the way I was,” he may very well be right.

Other research suggests that animal-protein based diets are associated with greater risks of heart disease and different kinds of cancer. By some estimates, switching to plant-based diets could reduce deaths from chronic illnesses by over 60%.

Why We All Aren’t Vegan

For some people it comes down to taste. I love chicken, fish and beef, and would struggle to give it up. But watching this video of Jim talking about his decision to go vegan really has me wondering.

There’s no question that making the transition would be hard, but the benefits seem great. Many of us struggle with digestive issues every day that perhaps a vegan diet could help. We all live under the constant fear of developing heart disease or cancer, and again, a vegan diet seems to help.

And when we’re 78 years old, I think we would all like to be as physically fit as Jim Morris. A vegan diet has never seemed so appealing.

Lemon, cucumber, mint water is my jam, I make my own apple-jalapeño salsa, and I do a lot of push-ups. I’m a young writer who believes in living well and uncovering the truth. I’m frustrated that a healthy diet is more expensive than a fat-filled, sugar-saturated, chemical-crusted one and that so few people seem to care. I can’t believe that we continue to lead sedentary lifestyles, despite the overwhelming evidence that it’s bad for our health. I’m no longer content with a life of mediocre health and am passionate about helping others lead lives that are far better than the current normal.
