Babies crying is normal process because they usually cry to communicate the need for sleep, hunger, fear, pain and much more. Babies can cry for 2 hours and even longer during one day. However, sometimes the reason why they are crying is not as obvious as we might think.
You can see in the following video what you should do in order to soothe a crying baby.
Dr. Robert C. Hamilton, a pediatrician from Santa Monika, Calif, explains “The Hold” can stop a baby from crying in a few seconds. These two separate scenarios shows you the technique with which Dr. Robert calms the baby. He picks up the crying patient by pulling the right arm close to the chest, and puts the left arm across the chest. After that, while gently holding the arms and bottom, he is rocking the baby up and down. He says: “Sometimes stir him [or her] to the left, and stir him [or her] to the right”.
According to Hamilton, you should hold the baby at a 45 degree angle in order to avoid the baby tilting its head back. He also suggests that instead of holding the baby with your fingertips, you should hold him/her with the fleshy part of your dominant hand. Support the baby’s chin with the fingertips from the other hand, so the head is lifted.
“I shake his little booty like that”, he says, as he claims the crying baby. He also recommends that everything you do must be very gently and you shouldn’t do jerky motions ever.
In most of the cases, by doing “The Hold”, the baby does quiet down. On the other hand, if the baby continues crying, there are two things that could be wrong, either the baby is hungry or it could be ill.
You can use The Hold for the first 2-3 months, but as the baby gets older, it becomes heavier, therfore it will be more difficult for you to hold the baby in that position.
