If You Read This, You’ll Never Be Able To Eat Burger King Chicken Again

Have you ever heard of a chicken deciding how a dead chicken is cooked? If you did, Burger King brought it to your ears.

The overwhelming success of Burger King’s new menu item, chicken fries, has lead to the launch of an ad campaign that forces a chicken named Gloria to make a horrid decision every day: will a chicken be thrown in the fryer for our chicken-fry desires today?

First of all, what on earth are chicken fries?

The name gives it away. Chicken fries are like chicken nuggets. They are breaded and fried, but they’re shaped like fries.

Burger King boasts that their chicken fries are made of “higher quality ingredients” than items on their standard menu. With the unhealthy details that we know about fast-food joints, one might question the standard of Burger King product ingredients to begin with.

Nonetheless, chicken fries have been a popular, limited time offer on the BK menu since the summer of 2014, and Burger King is riding the money wave and raising ethical concerns.

The Gloria Tour

Now Gloria, a three-year-old chicken from California, has become the center of a major Burger King Marketing scheme called The Random Gloria Tour. Gloria’s nationwide tour carts her along with hundreds of frozen chicken fries across the country, pecking at “yes” or “no” bowls to decide if chicken fries are made at different Burger King restaurants.

It gets worse. While Gloria is making this heartbreaking decision, you can access it through live stream on the internet for all your viewing pleasure. You can also stay updated on this marketing ploy through Burger King’s Youtube page. If that weren’t enough, there’s a whole website dedicated to this corporate display of animal cruelty.

The Mind of The Chicken

Perhaps you wouldn’t think it was so bad if you thought chickens were not socially aware.

Compared to other animals, chickens are very intelligent creatures. Chickens have strong communication skills, complex social structures and a very good memory. These animals look after their chicks and look out for the other members of their group.

Numerous studies can testify to the impressive cognitive abilities of chickens. Knowing this, how can Burger King force Gloria to participate in acts that involve choosing how her fellow chickens are cooked? Why must she travel with frozen chicken fingers for the sake of our entertainment and for the sake of Burger King’s profits?

“Gloria has the final word. She can’t be bought, seduced or swayed. After the decision, fans can take celebratory or sad-face photos with her.”

This is a direct quote from Burger King to Adweek. This major fast food chain doesn’t seem to show any remorse for Gloria. If the public doesn’t raise its voice and demand that the campaign come to an end, Gloria will continue to be a mascot for the glorified frying of her species.
