With how commoditized today’s food industry is, it’s nearly impossible to avoid the “big names” when doing your grocery shopping. This has had a huge impact on the health of the country as a whole.

Mutation Research/Genetic Toxicology and Environmental Mutagenesis tested 39 food additives and found that rats exposed to these ingredients suffered from failing gastrointestinal organs, DNA damage, and colon damage. Food Companies to Avoid

Though these companies may be large and outwardly successful, their food isn’t doing you any favors. From additives and dodgy processing practices to outright lying to consumers, find out why you should skip products produced by these companies:

  • Kraft:

    You’ve likely eaten this iconic mac and cheese at least once in your life. Unfortunately, it’s terrible for you and your family. Kraft macaroni and cheese gets its memorable taste and color from chemicals and additives that endanger your health.

  • Heinz:

    Heinz tried to get away with calling their products natural and went to court over it. Why don’t they just make their products natural if they know that consumers want it? Heinz ketchup is full of ingredients like high fructose corn syrup, tomatoes treated with pesticides, and nutritionally deficient table salt.

  • Campbell’s:

    Speaking of table salt, Campbell’s soups have abnormally high salt levels. That’s not even the worst part of this company. Their soup cans are lined with BPA, which has been tied to cancer, infertility, ADD, and obesity.

  • ConAgra:

    Many manufacturers fit under the umbrella of ConAgra, including Reddi-wip, Orville Redenbacher’s, Marie Callender’s, and Healthy Choice. However, this company’s food processing practices are horrendous. Their processes endanger consumers, and that’s on top of the fact that they sold beef contaminated with E.coli for two years.

  • General Mills:

    General Mills cereals are the last thing you need to eat for breakfast. They contain trisodium phosphate, a harmful chemical that is meant to enhance flavors.

  • Kellogg’s:

    If you’re trying to avoid GMOs, skip Kellogg’s. They use 100% GMO corn in their food products.

  • Nestle:

    Nestle has long been known for its shady business practices. Their products contain ingredients like melamine and propylene glycol, which have been tied to deaths and illnesses around the world.

  • Pepsi:

    Pepsi is flavored with high fructose corn syrup and carcinogenic ingredients. Drink water instead.

  • Coca-Cola:

    It’s hard to find a company that’s more symbolically American than Coca-Cola. Unfortunately, their products endanger the health of people all around the world. Each can of Coke contains a plethora of chemical additives, and the diet variety has even more fake flavors and additives.

  • Hershey’s:

    Chocolate from this company is no treat for your family. Hershey’s chocolates have high amounts of lead and cadmium.

Minimizing Your Family’s Exposure to Frankenfood

You don’t have to completely skip the convenience of packaged foods. However, look into buying from companies that use organic, non-GMO ingredients. On top of benefiting your family’s health, these foods also tend to taste much better than salt and sugar-packed varieties.
