This isn’t the first time you’ve hear this; sugar is bad.
When sugar is not coming from natural sources like fruit, it can be extremely harmful because of all of the empty calories being consumed.
This is why Eve O Schaub challenged herself, her husband, and her two daughters in order to improve their lifestyle.
I challenge you to do the same!
A Year Without Sugar
The challenge was to cut sugar completely out of her life, except for fruits. If you do this, you’ll find it’s hard to start.
Eve was challenged by almost all commercially produced products, as most things contain added sugars and fructose.
When too much fructose is in the body, the liver becomes overloaded and will turn that sugar into fat. If that fat gets lodged in the liver, as is common, it can lead to Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.
Eve and her family had to avoid many foods some of us would find essential and probably have in our fridge and cupboards right now.
She found that her family didn’t only have to avoid sweets and desserts like cake and cookies, but also had to pay close attention to the ingredient lists on chicken broth, sausages, soups, salad dressings and a whole lot more. Basically, everything she grabbed off of a grocery shelf had added sugars in it.
The Results of a Sugar Cleanse Diet
Eve felt subtle changes quickly after deciding not to consume any sugar. She avoided all sugar, except from fruits, including from honey, maple syrup, and agave.
As soon as she stopped, she felt more energetic and clear minded.
This is probably because sugar has hormonal effects in our body and brain. When you eat sugar, your brain releases dopamine, which gives sugar its addictive quality.
Eve also noticed her daughter did not miss as much school as when she was eating sugar.
The Second Challenge
Eve and her family made one rule; they could eat sugary foods once a year.
So when her husband’s birthday came along, he decided he wanted to eat banana cream pie in all its sugar-glory.
But when Eve went to go eat it (after not eating sugar for months), she realized she didn’t like it. It was way too sweet for her now and she became dizzy and could feel her heart quicken.
Sugar builds resistance in the body the more a person consumes it. This can lead to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
Because of this resistance, people who eat sugars often don’t see the effects of it on their body as Eve did with the banana cream pie. But she suspects her body always reacted that way; she just never noticed.
Eve Believes Her Life Has Changed For the Better
With not sugar present in her family’s life, Eve believes their lives have improved. And now that she’s completely off of sugar, she can see a wide variety of other changes to her physically and mentally.
So give it try! Cut sugar out of our life and see the changes it can make.
