Woman Takes Photo of a 7-Week-Old Fetus After Miscarriage (This Will Break Your Heart)

TO SEE THE PICTURE WITHOUT READING THE ARTICLE, PLEASE SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM.

Whether you are pro-life or pro-choice, you have a heart and this image will prove it. This photo of a 7-week-old fetus was recently posted online and has since gone viral. It is the most heartbreaking thing you will see today.

After 7 weeks you wouldn’t expect a fetus to resemble anything really, let alone a human-being, and yet, it does. It’s not just a blob of cells or tissue. You can already see limbs starting to form. You can see the life there.

In this case, that life was taken away when the expectant mother unfortunately suffered a miscarriage 7 weeks into her pregnancy. Saddened, her main concern was whether she would even have something to bury. Her doctor informed her the fetus could easily be damaged or crushed during the process and that there would be little left of the life that was.

Luckily, he was wrong and somehow the amniotic sac remarkably came out intact. The result is an image you will not soon forget.

What Does the Fetus Mean?

Miscarriages are tremendously sad events and are deserving of our attention, but the photo has sparked major controversy because of its applicability to the pro-life versus pro-choice debate. In abortion clinics across the country fetuses just like this are aborted every day, and that has people wondering.

The photo does little to change the landscape of the debate. Pro-choice pundits will not be reconsidering their thoughts on a woman’s right to make decisions about her health and her body. But regardless of your stance, the image is powerful.

Is the Fetus Gross?

So powerful in fact, that many pro-lifers have felt compelled to speak out in response. Some have called the photo “gross” and “disgusting.” Which in turn has only fuelled pro-lifers, who insist that if the image is really so repulsive, perhaps we should not be forcing doctors and medical technicians to witness similar events at clinics every day.

Of course, the deeper point is that such images are difficult to see, especially for those women who have suffered miscarriages or who have had abortions. No one wants to lose a baby, through genetic misfortune or otherwise, and having to relive that event cannot be pleasant.

But Maybe the Fetus Is Just Problematic?

While jarring, to me there is something touching about the photo. It is unequivocally sad, it is heartbreaking, and it is certainly helping the cause of pro-lifers everywhere. Even those that are steadfast pro-choice, cannot help but feel something when they see this photo. I know I can’t.

A Lost Message About Miscarriage

Still, the saddest part about this story is that a woman lost her child. In fact roughly one in five pregnancies are still lost to miscarriage today. And while many of those miscarriages are caused by genetics, many are preventable.

To do everything in your power to ensure a safe pregnancy, you should exercise only in moderation, avoid tobacco, alcohol and drugs, be careful about what you eat, and consult your doctor about any conditions that could cause complications.

Amidst the controversy, it’s easy to lose sight of what’s important. The image is not a weapon for pro-lifers to wield, it’s a picture of an unborn child that was lost too soon.

NOT REAL!!!!! It would not hold up like this. It would not be round and firm w a perfectly floating baby. I’ve seen it for real numerous times. This is fake.

    • Virginia Satterwhite

Not fake… I had a miscarriage at 11 weeks of my baby that had stopped developing at 8 weeks… Mine was more babylike in appearance, perfectly intact in his amniotic sac. I wish I had taken a picture. I was too distraught, however.

Mine came out just like that. Had one sharp cramp and came out in sac completely intact.
