5 Foods You Should Avoid At All Costs (#5 Will Shock You)

The following food items have been draped in the guise of health and nutrition so well that even the most health conscious consumers might find one or two of these foods in their kitchen. Check out the six foods that experts say are ruining your health and see if you’ve been misled about your diet.

1. Arizona Iced Tea

It’s iced tea so it must be healthy for you right? At least healthier than soda? Think again. A bottle of Coca-Cola Classic has 240 calories, with 65g of sugar. In comparison, a bottle of Arizona Lemon Iced Tea has 270 calories, and 72g of sugar, more than double the daily recommended intake.

The brand promotes low sodium beverages that have no artificial flavors, but there is no nutritional value found in Arizona Iced Tea that compensates for the loads of sugar they add to it.

2. Flavoured Greek Yogurts

Protein, probiotics, potassium and calcium are just some of the health essentials that you can find in greek yogurt. No wonder it’s become so popular! However, the true problem lies in the flavoring of these yogurts.

Yoplait, for example, has 16 flavours for their Greek yogurts, including café mocha and lemon meringue, and each pack has 16 to 19 grams of sugar! As soon as you’ve finished this snack sized dairy treat, provided that you only have one, you’ve already consumed more than half of your recommended sugar intake.

3. Coffee Creamers

Creamers come in such small, innocent looking, (dare I say cute?) packaging, that the harm creamers can do to your health seem almost insignificant compared to all that soda and junk food your mother warned you about.

Most creamers contain trans fats that can severely affect your heart health by increasing your bad cholesterol and lowering your good cholesterol. The easiest solution is to start drinking your coffee black. You can make a more gradual transition from cream to no cream by using milk. And while you’re at it, work on taking the sugar out your coffee too.

4. Diet Soda

If you look at the nutrition facts on a can of diet coke, you will see a lot of zeros. No fat! No carbs! No calories! Unfortunately, diet sodas do not fit into a healthy lifestyle. Sugar is replaced with artificial sweeteners, which aren’t any better. Most of the time, artificial anything is bad to consume.

Studies have shown an increased risk of diabetes, among other illnesses, in those who consumed diet drinks. The truth of the matter is that nothing beats water when it comes to losing weight, staying hydrated and maintaining overall health.

5. Granola Bars/ Fruit Bars

Ironically, You can find these products in or near many gym facilities. They may even be in a health store. Yes, whole grains are good for you, but these bars are not. Many of them have poor ingredients, are made with lots of sugar and are highly processed.

Nature Valley granola bars, for example, have 120 calories and 12 grams of sugar. You are better off Looking to real food options for your dietary needs.
