Recently, British people have started wearing safety pins on their clothes. Since the surprising EU referendum result last week, the people of the UK have been seriously shocked.
Not many people expected that the United Kingdom will leave the European Union, which according to them it sends out a wrong message to immigrants in the country. This act is actually sending a message that some people are not welcome in the country at all.
What’s the idea behind wearing safety pins?
This started when a user named @cheeahs wrote on Twitter: “I’d like to come up with something that can be made by anybody anywhere to pin on their jacket or coat to signify they are an allay. A safe person to sit next to on a bus, walk next to on a street, even have a conversation with. I quite like the idea of just putting a safety pin, empty of anything else, on your coat. A literal SAFETY pin!” This was so appealing to people so they started wearing safety pins on their clothes almost immediately.
With this act, people actually show solidarity. On the other hand, if you think more deeply about this idea, it Is quite sad in a way because people of no-British origin have felt really unsafe in the country.
Unfortunately, this referendum has caused a lot of stir around the world and those who voted for it, are considered as racist. Today, people from all over the world are speculating on the repercussions of such a big move.
